Deputy: Messengers to give operators user’s real phone number
MOSCOW, Oct 25 (PRIME) -- The Russian government has obliged the messengers to share the data on the user’s real phone number with the connection operators for its confirmation, Alexander Khinshtein, head of the information policy committee of the State Duma, the parliament’s lower house, told PRIME on October 23.
“The rules for the owners of messengers were introduced as far as in 2018. A new ruling is signed now. They must request confirmation of a phone number from a connection operator and provide services only after that. If the connection operator terminates the contract with the user afterward, the operator must inform the messenger’s owner of the fact,” Khinshtein said.
Vladimir Zykov, head of the association of professional users of social networks and messengers, earlier told PRIME that the new ruling does not change the rules of messenger user identification copying the 2018 rules.
